Legislation is here and being enforced; are you ready to meet these requirements?

In line with the European Union F-Gas Regulation, from 4th July 2011 it became a legal requirement for all businesses who install, maintain or service stationary refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump (RAC) equipment that contains “F gas” refrigerants to hold a Company Certificate issued by an appointed Company Certification Body, Coldlink Ltd has registered with REFCOM who have been formally named by Defra and have successfully been audited and are fully compliant with Refcom and there procedures.

In addition, the Regulation requires companies and other organisations with Commercial refrigeration and air conditioning plant, to ensure that the fluorinated greenhouse gases are contained within the systems. All personnel carrying out works on equipment that contain F-Gas refrigerants must hold either City & Guilds 2079 or CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants: Category 1 qualifications.

All Coldlink engineers have been accredited with City Guilds 2079 Category I - Leak checking, recovery, installation, service, maintenance of equipment, this is the required standard to meet the requirements of the legislation in order to help companies properly maintain their equipment and stay within the law.

Coldlink has introduced a system to assist companies in meeting the demands for adequate labelling and record-keeping required by the new law. Companies must have equipment containing these refrigerants regularly tested. All relevant plant must be clearly labelled and maintained and comprehensive records kept. Records must be made available for inspection by enforcement officers.

The main advantage of regular servicing is the reduction of energy consumption this is achieved by the following procedures which fall in line with the current F-Gas requirements.

  • Chemical cleaning of both the condenser and evaporator coils which can result in average savings of at least 20%.
  • Correct refrigerant charge.
  • Replacement of filter driers.
  • Calibration of thermostats and probes.
  • General health check and correct operation of the units.
